  • What a pretty boat was our thought when approaching Madrigal, with gleaming and colourful paintwork, and we were not disappointed on closer inspection! It is clear to see that past & present owners have cherished this boat and she is presented to the market in fantastic condition. She is built in the traditional, floating country cottage layout with an aft bedroom and forward saloon, providing comfortable accommodation for up to four. The interior fit-out by Droitwich Boat Centre on the Worcester/Birmingham Canal features painted finishes which are not only easy to care for, but provide a very bright, cosy cabin, even on the dullest of days. Headroom is a very comfortable 6ft 4in. If you are looking to buy your first narrowboat, you might notice that the name Reeves keeps popping up and you might ask why. The simple answer is, they have always built excellent, quality shells with good looks, not only being skin deep as they also have a fine underwater section allowing them to swim effortlessly. At this length, powered by the 35hp Beta diesel engine, there should be no connected inland waterway beyond its reach.

  • Built by her first owner, a professional boat fitter, as shown by the level of quality and neat design ideas. She is set-up to cruise, with the beefy Lister JP3, boasting low engine hours since being rebuilt, matched to a hydraulic drive with Crowther Propeller to make the most of the power. There is also plenty of power in the hydraulic bow thruster that can be continuously operated, making manoeuvring easier than some shorter boats. An added bonus of the hydraulic drive is the higher headroom in the aft cabin as compared to shaft-driven systems, and this separate aft cabin is well away from the saloon enabling use as an office or second saloon; it is currently set-up with washbasin installed for use as a single bedroom. The sizeable forward and aft water tanks means infrequent top-ups and the ability to trim the boat.  Double-glazed tinted windows for the saloon help provide privacy and a skylight over the walk-through galley gives extra light to supplement the portholes. The design includes a fuel system and second diesel tank, plus engine beds, for an onboard generator. Mention should also be made of the much-admired external appearance that shows off the elegant lines.

  • Distinctively a Stoke-on-Trent boat, including elegant lines and additional features to give a traditional style and pleasing handling characteristics. The fine josher style bow is enhanced by a good number of rubbing guards and rivets which extend along the hull sides. The cabin superstructure is in superb condition having been re-painted in April this year by Colin Dundas in 2-pack epoxy paint. The hull sides and 12mm bottom was blacked in 2-pack epoxy in September this year, with six new anodes fitted. A dedicated engine room houses what many would consider to be the Rolls-Royce of canal boat engines, a Gardner 2LW, re-built in 2015 by Marine Power Services, with manoeuvrability aided by a Vetus 12V bow thruster. Onboard 230V power can be provided by landline, 1.5kW inverter or 4kW generator, with trickle charging to the batteries from the four roof mounted solar panels, with MPPT controller. Home comforts are provided with diesel central heating, solid fuel stove and a traditional Boatmans cabin range at the aft, a full size washing machine and cooker in the galley and a bathroom housing a bath, washbasin and cassette wc.

  • Roger Fuller (Five Towns Boatbuilding) has, without doubt, built some of the finest traditional style narrowboats afloat and is well known for his meticulous attention to detail. Anna of the Five Towns (named after a novel by the Stoke author Arnold Bennett) is the very first shell that he built, fitted out by his father-in-law, Stan Clements for their own use. The Boatman\'s cabin is traditionally scumbled and painted with Knobstick roses and castles by Roger Fuller. Propulsion is by a Lister air-cooled engine which sits nicely in the compact engine room and has that authentic sound that not only turns heads, but will not suffer from overheating and indeed provides extra cabin heating. She has had some recent upgrades this year with the addition of 2 x 180w solar panels with MPPT controller, a Victron 1.6kW inverter/charger has been fitted, and the shower room has been re-fitted, however, she has preserved all the traditional charm and is a truly delightful little boat. For more details or to download the full specification, four page brochure, please viist our website www.abnb.co.uk

Cabin warmth is by diesel fired central heating to three radiators, with additional heat from the solid fuel stove in the saloon. The sociable cruiser stern has a folding pram hood to keep the aft deck dry during the inclement weather. Beneath the deck, propulsion is by a Barrus 3TNV 35hp diesel engine. Onboard power when not connected to a landline is by a Victron 1.6kW inverter/charger with 200w of solar power to trickle charge the 550Ah cabin battery bank. Fitted out by Ron Hunt using oak plywood in a floating cottage style, complete with Welsh dresser in the saloon. Central heating is by gas boiler to radiators with additional warmth from the solid fuel stove in the saloon, and a second stove in the Boatmans cabin – you will certainly not be cold on this boat! A full width shower room houses a cassette toilet, along with the usual washbasin and shower cubicle and also a washing machine. • G& J Reeves and Black Prince are two well known and respected names in the inland waterways industry with Reeves enjoying a reputation as builders of fine narrowboat shells. Ex hire boats are always sought after, especially for family and friends ownership, as they are suited to group holidays more than residential use. Umbrellas is typical of such craft, providing adaptable accommodation for two couples or a couple & two children. They are especially popular with those wishing to introduce grandchildren to boating, with the cruiser stern useful for training in steering! At 52ft there are very few places on the canal and river system beyond her reach. Propulsion is by a rugged Isuzu 38hp engine with heating from an economical compact diesel boiler. Hot water is heated by engine and boiler and an immersion heater is fitted but not connected to the 230v supply. Umbrellas has been well maintained throughout the current owners\' 14 years of ownership with regular blacking and engine servicing. She was last blacked in February 2021 and four new anodes welded to hull. In July 2023 she benefitted from new cabin batteries and a new calorifier.
