  • On Y Va is a much loved and well cared for Dufour. Throughout our ownership she has proved to be a safe and comfortable yacht being sailed single handed, with friends, family and crew extensively along the South coast and North coast of France. Her accommodation is well designed and in excellent condition. There are births for 5 with one double and three singles.

On Y Va is the first sailing boat we’ve purchased and her ownership has been a labour of love. Designed by renowned naval architect and engineer, Michel Dufour over 1300 of these boats were built to cope with the demand and this made it one of their top selling models of all time. Past owners have clearly cared and maintained her regardless of cost and all the big ticket items have been serviced or replaced in recent years. There is also a very comprehensive and well organised folder of paperwork for the vessel including Part 1 registration (Certificate of British Registry, Registry of Shipping and Seamen), proof of VAT paid status and historic Bill of Sales including the original purchase invoice and receipt. The original Dufour crockery, Dufour stamped cutlery and original cushion covers on board all emphasise the care and love she’s clearly been subjected to.

Whilst 2020 has proved to be a short sailing season we’ve enjoyed over 30 nights onboard her with trips around the Solent, across the Channel, down to the West Country or simply at anchor in Studland Bay. We’ve invested in her emotionally, financially and with many hours work getting her into the condition she is now and is ready to be enjoyed by loving new owners. We were relatively new to sailing before acquiring her and have learnt a lot during our time together. We will be very sad to see her go but with ambitions of long distance cruising and spending several seasons exploring the Med, it’s unfortunately time to say goodbye.

Boston Whaler Sakonnet - RARE!
  • Boston Whaler Sakonnet - RARE!
  • Boston Whaler Sakonnet

I thought I’d escaped having to do this! 24 months ago I was given the permission to purchase a sailing yacht on the proviso that another boat or toy had to go. I kept quiet and for the first time I let leaves cover the tarpaulin Hobo was sitting beneath in an attempt to hide her in the garden. As time passed I thought I’d been pardoned on my side of the deal. I was wrong. The good lady never forgets!

So here she is! A very rare and iconic Boston Whaler Sakonnet that’s looking for someone to love her and create many more memories with.

I knew very little about Boston Whalers when purchasing ‘Hobo’ back in 2015. There was something undeniably cool about her lines and colour and owning her has proved to be incredibly nostalgic. It’s only during the last 6 years of ownership that I’ve discovered just how iconic, versatile and desirable these little boats are.

‘Hobo’ is a 56 year old 1964 16’7” Boston Whaler Sakonnet that was built in Boston Whaler’s old Rockland, Massachusetts factory. Boston Whaler have confirmed that she was originally shipped to a local dealer on the 2nd March 1964 but how she arrived in the UK still remains somewhat of a mystery.

To our knowledge, she’s the only 16’7” Boston Whaler from the blue gelcoat era in the UK. Boston Whaler stopped using this colour in 1973. We are, however, aware of a number of 13” pre 1973 Whalers across the South coast. The past owner had used her for family holidays in and around Salcombe and they purchased her from long-term owners, the Dartmouth–Kingswear Floating Bridge Company.
