'Vanessa' is more than a simple motor yacht, this fine craft is a living piece of history which gives a lesson in craftsmanship that modern boats could take note of. Built in 1953 by Graham Bunn boatyard in Wroxham, Norfolk. "Vanessa" or "Träumerei II", as she was originally called, was custom built for the Chairman of Graham Bunn Ltd. Designed by R.M Martins and made from the finest Teak imported from Burma before the Second World War. Legendary singer/songwriter, George Formby, who bought the smaller 43" "Träumerei I" was so impressed with his yacht's bigger sister that he had a sister ship commissioned named "Lady Beryl". She was later taken to France under the ownership of Sir William Steward before she moved to Mallorca and was owned and enjoyed by Vanessa Devereux, sister of Sir Richard Branson, and renamed "Vanessa's Folley". Her current owner found her in Hayling Island in 2010 after two years of searching for the perfect classic yacht and instantly fell in love. From here she underwent an extensive refit including new engines, all new electrics, new rear deck beams, new windows, a new generator, extensive maintenance to all timber work and much much more. Here we have a very nice example of the ever popular Aquafibre 42 Centre Cockpit Broads cruiser. This one appears to be in very nice and tidy order and has a very well starting and running BMC diesel engine and the addition of the side power bow thruster which makes her a breeze to manoeuvre. The layout of this particular boat is a twin in the bow, double cabin to the starboard side with heads and shower to port opposite the side cabin. Then step up into the main saloon and wheelhouse which can convert to a double and has direct side deck access when the roof is open. Moving aft from the raised saloon under the sliding roof we have another heads and larger shower to starboard and the longitudinal galley to port with full size cooker, fridge and plenty of worktop and storage cupboard space. Towards the aft end of the boat is a very flexible layout that gives two separate sleeping cabins for up to 5 people, or you can open the whole space up to have a large aft saloon area which leads out to the large aft well with cut out transom. The boat appears to be clean, dry and tidy and in good order to my eye and has a lot to offer especially with the added thruster. Warm air heating and shore power with battery charger complete the very comprehensive inventory of the delightful vessel. She is still in gelcoat on her topsides with just the sliding roof painted a fetching grey. She has a full aft cover to keep the elements out. Wraparound oak cabinetry extends this feature wall to starboard giving excellent storage and a beautiful look to the space. Stand alone furnishings can be arranged to suit the owner and offers great flexibility of this space. The galley aft of the saloon is sublime and fully featured with an island dining and cooking station with a stainless steel feature extractor above, and 5 burner gas hob and storage below.The remaining galley wraps around this island on all sides with storage cupboards and granite worktops, butler sink and display and storage areas and also a concealed dishwasher and a washer dryer and a slimline drinks cooler / fridge to keep your wine and beer cold. This space is flanked by full wraparound seating plus a separate bulkhead seat and this huge space is covered by a full size canopy that means the space is usable in any weather. It can be opened up on nice days which will give a great alfresco space to relax or entertain as it must seat 10 with ease and still leave a large floor area and the helm station to port.The floor has three lift out panels which give you access to the engine room and the vast under floor storage spaces and all the technical equipment areas. These spaces are as new: dry, clean and immaculate as you would expect.The exterior of the boat is almost totally unmarked with just a tiny (approx.) 70mm x 5mm scuff on a forward coachroof edge at the cratch and this is almost unnoticeable. That is genuinely all I can fault on this amazing boat.
